The Ancient Body
Introduction to Dance from Antiquity
Experiential dance workshop with Arsinoe Lilly Karadima,
founder of the Chorosophy Ancient Greek Dance Academia,
choreographer and Artistic Director of Atrapos Dance & Culture Group

What might dance have been like in ancient times?
What did it feel like, and why was it such an important part of life?
In this experiential workshop, we will approach dance from its source, inspired by ancient texts, myths, pottery imagery and living traditions.
Because “ancient” does not mean old or outdated.
It leads us back to the Origin — where movement, rhythm and expression begin.
Through simple exercises and creative exploration of movement, participants will discover different qualities of ancient dance such as the Lyrical, Doric and Dionysian styles.
We will also explore group dance formations and move with ritual-inspired objects such as veils, percussion instruments and the thyrsus.
No previous dance experience is required.
